Is a Breast implant removal Right for You?

Annually, there are over 360,000+ breast augmentation operations that occur in the United States. Although relatively rare, there are many reasons why breast implant removal surgery becomes necessary for some patients. 

There are many reasons why a person may choose to have their breast implants removed, including:

  • Desire for a different look: Some patients may wish to remove their breast implants in order to achieve a more natural look or to change the size or shape of their breasts.
  • Implant complications: Implant complications such as rupture, leakage, or capsular contracture can occur and may require the removal of the implant.
  • Health concerns: In rare cases, breast implants can cause health concerns such as infection or breast implant-associated anaplastic large cell lymphoma (BIA-ALCL), which may require removal of the implants.

What does the procedure entail?

During the breast implant removal procedure, Dr. Chang will make an incision in the breast to access the implant. The implant will then be carefully removed, and any excess scar tissue or loose skin will be addressed as needed. In some cases, a breast lift may also be performed to help restore the natural contour of the breast.
