Patients travel from all around the world to consult with Dr. Catherine Chang for facelifts and other facial rejuvenation procedures. In this article, we’ve covered everything you need to know about getting a nose job. In order to help you make the best, informed decisions and prepare for your procedure, we’ve outlined the details you should know about getting rhinoplasty in Beverly Hills.

What Is Rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure used to reconstruct and redesign the nose in order to alter its shape. Rhinoplasty is performed to improve nose appearance or to correct certain anatomical abnormalities. For some patients, the nose takes attention away from other facial features, as it overwhelms the proportions of the face. Dr. Chang aims to alter your nose in a way that complements your face and maintains a naturally balanced appearance.

Asymmetric noses are very common among some people. Having rhinoplasty in Los Angeles usually involves the shaving down or removal of bone along the bridge of the nose. The nasal structure can is carefully reconstructed by Dr. Chang to produce a more refined appearance.

Who is a Candidate for Rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty, also known as a “nose job”, can be performed to enhance a person’s nose to achieve their desired facial profile while also addressing nasal irregularities and breathing issues.

Patients who are good candidates for Rhinoplasty often wish to address:

  • The orientation of the nose in regard to the face
  • A nose’s width and/or nasal tip
  • Nasal passage symmetry
  • Nostril size and shape
  • Nose bridge depressions and/or bumps

The Procedure

It usually takes several hours for a rhinoplasty procedure to be completed. An “open rhinoplasty” procedure involves incisions between the nostrils and within the nostrils. A “closed rhinoplasty” is less invasive, incisions are made within the inside of the nose, which limits the modifications that can be made. Before considering the nose job procedure, Dr. Chang examines your medical history and determines whether you are a good candidate.

Preparation

Dr. Chang may require you to do the following before performing surgery. You will be required to do a few lab tests. Make sure you avoid any specific drugs or anti-inflammatory medications that cause excessive bleeding. Avoid smoking and drinking in the weeks and months leading up to and following surgery.

Recovery & AfterCare

The recovery path for rhinoplasty in Beverly Hills is unique to every patient’s nose and to their individual treatment plan. Have a trusted companion drive you home, and stay with you until you are cleared to leave after the procedure. The initial phase of recovery will not allow you to breathe through your nose, wear eyeglasses, or put on makeup. If you experience any discomfort following your surgery, we will prescribe pain medication for you to manage it.

Rhinoplasty surgery usually causes some degree of swelling and bruising. To reduce discomfort and swelling, elevate your head up and don’t bend over. We advise our patients to rest the most during the first few days of their recovery. Usually, after about one week of resting at home, patients can return to simple tasks. Patients should avoid strenuous activities and exercise for at least four to six weeks and follow the instructions provided by Dr. Chang for cleaning and caring for the incisions.
